Mick Palmer's inquiry into the wrongful detention of 30 Australians and potentially 100s of others in our discredited immigration system is now complete and due to be released today.
But we won't get to know what is in his report until after the government takes control of the Senate.
In a move that will reduce parliamentary scrutiny of the immigration department problems, the Palmer report will be delayed for two weeks - exactly the time frame for the government to have a majority of members in the upper house.
Immigration minister Amanda Vanstone has already resisted calls for an independent judicial inquiry into why Australian Cornelia Rau was imprisoned without trial or crime, even though she was sick and on the police's official missing person's list.
Vanstone says she will only organise a royal commission, if Palmer calls for one. Mick, it looks like we are relying on you.
Mick Palmer was a former commissioner of the Australian Federal Police
